Seasons

Lyrics and music - Castalia

The images in the song have come entirely from Castalia's shared experience in the Odyssean Tradition, especially the image of Baldr rising with the tide. There has been many a chilly Solstice morning when cloaked pagans have foggily met an equally foggy dawn! As well, the rituals of Autumn harvest bring memories of purple feet and muddy robes. Yet each year, spring takes us by surprize, and again we appreciate Her beauty after a lengthy Canadian winter.

I shall sing a song to you
In the season of the air,
When beasties creep from winter's sleep
And see the world so fair.

And I shall play about the day
The world has been reborn
When its time to plant the finest crops
Of bean and corn,

I shall sing the song of life
I shall ...sing the song of death
I shall... sing about the good things
That will come along
When you feel the Lord and Lady's breath.

I shall sing a song to you
In the season of the sun
When Baldr rises with the tide,
'Til summertime is done

And we will dance upon the sands
Until we all are tired
Then I'll strum and sing and hum
Around a pine-cone pyre.

Oh...Chorus.

I shall sing a song to you
In the season of the rain
At harvest-tide we'll go outside
And bring in grape and grain

And we'll give thanks to Bacchus,
To Demeter give praise
For we'll be warm amidst the storms
Of Winter's shortest days.

Oh...Chorus.

I shall sing a song to you
In the season of the Earth,
When silence reigns o'er frozen plains
Awaiting the rebirth

And buds will show and plants will grow
Just like the Lady's hair,
And then I'll sing a song of spring
In the season of the air.

Oh...Chorus.
