Winter-Born King
© Ravenstar, 1998
A child is born this winter's night
in equal parts of dark and light
a Child, a Son, a King.
A mother's smile by fire's glow
in velvet hush of silent snow
a World, of Love, to bring.
A cresting wave on rising tide
in full moon circle, arms thrown wide
Maiden, Mother, Son.
Midnight vigil, starlight streams
of past and present, future dreams
Brother, Father, Lord.
Colder than death this northern sea
with warrior poets, proud and free
a Land, a Tribe, a Home.
The holly bears a crown of thorns
and blood-red berries greet the dawn
the Sun will rise again.
