Gods Enough

Lyrics and music by Kathryn Macdonald

A song for "recovering Catholics," we hear about the simplicity of an uncomplicated pagan faith.

As a child I was brought to learn the lessons and the prayers
Fire and Brimstone threatening and the guilt I had to share
Then I'd run into the woods and hide in branches roots and streams...
Safe at last from the world outside and at peace with childhood dreams

Chorus:

And I know:
My gods were in the winds and the whispers of the trees
Singing Streams in counterpoint to the humming of the seas
And the shining light that beckoned me from every stone and seed...
I don't need a book or guide these are gods enough ... for me.

Rivers sing their hymns to earth and they teach their lore to me
Spirits of the woods and hills Teach balance in the Season's Wheel
Soaring stone cathedrals that reach up to touch the sky
And I know that my own heaven Stretches here before my eyes

Chorus

You say that I've lost your God and my faith has crumbled down
Leaving me adrift and distant from the heaven you have found
But I believe my spirit soars with freedom in the breeze
Faith as strong as the mighty Earth and as endless as the seas

Chorus

My gods are in the gentle earth and the oceans mighty roar
The cycles of the life force, played on lake and forest floor,
The blessing of the rain that falls on sun warmed thirsty land
My soul is cleansed and healed by the touch of nature's hand.

Chorus
